WHAT IS A COUNCIL BOARD?
As a community school, we strongly believe in inclusiveness and collaboration between all members of our IBCS community. As such, our school was founded on the basis that all members would have a say in how the school is run by bringing decisions to our parents for a concordance vote regarding fundraising, budgeting of fundraising money (Council Budget), social events, and the creation of the school calendar.
Our elected Council Board members assist in hiring and making (by concordance) any decisions when the Council is unable to reach concordance. They are the sounding board for our community and assist all committees in functioning effectively to help our school grow.
How is this different from a PTA?
A PTA is run by an elected group of parents who represent the entire school and make decisions on behalf of the parents and teachers. Parents and teachers pay a membership fee to join and have a vote.
