Notes from the Dragon Cave

From the Desks of Schuba and Caleb...

Dear Izzi B. Family and Friends,

We hope this finds you all healthy and well at home. I want to begin by saying how much we miss seeing your children everyday - the smiles, hugs, laughter and wonderful curiosity. The world is truly facing something new and challenging, and responding in ways we never imagined would be necessary.

As we begin remote learning on Tuesday, April 7, please have patience and grace as each teacher approaches the online platform in their own way while balancing home/family obligations.

Here are the overall expectations for staff:

  • Izzi B. teachers will aim for 2-4 hours of learning per weekday. The DPS sample schedule calls for 3-hours each day through a mix of online learning using Google Classroom, Seesaw, Zoom, Google Meets, Schoology, iStation, iReady, Lexia, Freckle and self-directed learning time.

  • Each teacher will plan an interactive learning opportunity at least 4-times per week.

Lastly, I want to thank the families and community members who donated more than $2,000 to our Backpack Program prior to the “Extended Spring Break.” Your generous donations allowed all participating Backpack Program families to receive six complete meals, as well as cleaning supplies. Additionally, IBCS Administration and Council Board donated $1,000 of those proceeds to the DPS Foundation food's distribution fund.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to me or Caleb, if you have any questions or concerns as we launch this new way of teaching and learning. We will host our first Virtual Coffee and Conversation on Friday, April 10, at 9 a.m., and encourage you to attend. A reminder will be sent out a couple days in advance with the Zoom invitation.

Thanks for all you do,

Schuba and Caleb
